The Online Tools are the latest version of Rubicon Toolbox, and supersede the Desktop Tools. The Online Tools are cloud-based, accessed via an internet browser and do not require a software installation on your computer. The advantages of a cloud-based system are numerous, including quicker and easier updates and inclusion of new features, no hassles with firewalls and security systems, and efficient use and management of licenses.

The Desktop Tools are our previous, older version of Rubicon Toolbox. The Desktop Tools are installed on a computer, with a USB dongle for the license.

All our development and enhancements are in the Online Tools. Once a Tool has been migrated to the Online Tools, we no longer support the equivalent Desktop Tool. The only Tools that have not yet been migrated to the Online Tools are the Grading and Finite Element Tool. A Beta version of the Grading Tool is available in the Online Tools. It is unlikely that the Finite Element Tool will be migrated to the Online Tools, and will therefore be the only Tool remaining in the Desktop Tools.

We encourage you to move to the Online Tools. We learnt a lot from the Desktop Tools, and consequently have streamlined and simplified the user interface for the Online Tools, as well as incorporating new features. The Online Help contains “How to” Guidelines for each Tool, with step by step instructions for using the Tools.

The Online and Desktop Tools are not compatible, and their functionality is different. They are completely separate systems, and projects cannot be transferred from one to the other. For most Tools, the templates are different as they have been updated and modified for the Online Tools. For the Online Tools, the templates are available for download from within each Online Tool. We encourage you to download a template each time you need it, as we add features to the templates from time to time.

The licenses for the Online Tools are linked to an email address. For each license in the Online Tools, up to three users/email addresses are linked to the licensed client account. The licenses are, however, not concurrent and only one user per license may be logged in at any one time. Licenses for the Desktop Tools have been automatically transferred to the Online Tools.

The Online Tools are designed to work with all the latest internet browsers. However, Google Chrome gives the best performance in terms of speed, stability, and consistency. The use of the Online Tools is subject to an End User License Agreement (EULA), available at www.rubicontoolbox.com.

Rubicon Toolbox is available on an annual subscription basis. When the subscription expires, access to the Online Tools is limited to “Demo” mode with limited functionality. Our loyal users who originally purchased the software with an optional maintenance payment, have access to the Online Tools if their annual maintenance payments are up to date.

Software upgrades for the Desktop Tools can be downloaded from the Downloads Page on our website. This is only required if you need to access analyses originally setup in the Desktop Tools, or use the Grading or Finite Element Tools. A download code is required and is only available for maintenance and/or subscription paying clients.

Keep an eye on the What’s New feature on our website for details on new features, improvements and major bug fixes for the Online Tools.
